Pharmacological properties:The drug is an antihistamine. The mechanism of action consists in blocking the histamine H1-receptor. Histamine released in the blood plasma cannot reach the H1-receptor and the histamine effect - allergic reaction - decreases. The drug opposes the development of allergic reactions and weakens their course; It exhibits antipruritic, sedative and hypnotic effects. It has moderately pronounced peripheral cholinolytic and spasmolytic activity.
During parenteral administration, the therapeutic concentration of the drug in the blood is maintained for 4-6 hours. The drug is well distributed in the body and penetrates the blood-brain barrier. The drug is metabolized in the liver and excreted from the kidney and intestine.
Indications:Various allergic diseases, including Seasonal allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, defoliation, dermographism, contact dermatitis, food and drug allergies, insect bite allergy, skin itching, allergic bronchial asthma, and serum sickness. Also, adjuvant therapy of systemic anaphylactic reaction and angioedema.
